Summary:

Deep in the jungles of South America, an incredible treasure has been hidden for centuries. Archaeologist Nina Wilde possesses the key to finding it – but in her way stand revolutionaries and drug lords, fighting for control over the riches of a lost empire!

Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase are back for their seventh blockbusting adventure by the New York Times bestselling author of THE HUNT FOR ATLANTIS. Their goal this time is the legendary last outpost of the Inca Empire – which could point the way to an even greater discovery, long thought to be just a myth: El Dorado, the city of gold. Corrupt soldiers, murderous rebels and ruthless mercenaries – led by a man with a personal grudge against Eddie – will stop at nothing to obtain the unimaginable fortune for themselves. But their greatest enemy may be someone they think is a friend…

Foreign rights for EMPIRE OF GOLD have already been sold in the United States and Canada, with other territories under negotiation.
My 2 Cents:
This will be another of my soon to be read books. This is the seventh book of the Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase series. I have enjoyed the previous six, so I don’t think this one will disappoint. I really don’t know how to classify this series, maybe myth-thriller? Andy McDermott sent his character off to find Atlantis, the tomb of Hercules, Excalibur, and now El Dorado, so they take us on thrilling rides while searching for clues using myths….I will update this post as soon as I read it

Summary:

Has Ben finally met his match …

While in Italy visiting an old army comrade, a chance encounter leads ex-SAS soldier Ben Hope into a prestigious art exhibition near Rome. But the gallery is soon attacked by ruthless killers prepared to do anything to obtain an obscure, rediscovered work by the artist Goya – and Ben is caught up in a violent hostage situation.

In the wake of the bloodbath, Ben is lauded as a hero . . . but not for long. Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, and with his life in tatters, he is suddenly a fugitive, hurled into a wild chase across Europe with the police and the determined, attractive law enforcement agent Darcey Kane hot on his heels. Vowing to hunt down the art gallery killers, Ben must puzzle out the clues: why did the villains target a relatively valueless sketch when they could have taken grand masters worth millions? Who are the real players behind the scenes?

Piece by piece, Ben uncovers an international conspiracy at the highest level. At its heart lies the secret of the lost ‘Dark Medusa’, and a tale of doomed romance and death dating back to the tumultuous events of the Russian Revolution. This time, Ben is fighting not only for justice, but for his own freedom . . . but has he finally met his match in Darcey Kane?

My 2 cents:

I will update this post as soon as I read it. This novel is the sixth one in the Ben Hope series and I have been looking forward to it….

Summary:

Follett takes you to a time long past with brio and razor-sharp storytelling. An epic tale in which you will lose yourself.” -The Denver Post on World Without End Ken Follett’s World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep, beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics as “well-researched, beautifully detailed [with] a terrifically compelling plot” (The Washington Post) and “wonderful history wrapped around a gripping story” (St. Louis Post- Dispatch) Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families-American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh-as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women’s suffrage. Thirteen-year-old Billy Williams enters a man’s world in the Welsh mining pits…Gus Dewar, an American law student rejected in love, finds a surprising new career in Woodrow Wilson’s White House…two orphaned Russian brothers, Grigori and Lev Peshkov, embark on radically different paths half a world apart when their plan to emigrate to America falls afoul of war, conscription, and revolution…Billy’s sister, Ethel, a housekeeper for the aristocratic Fitzherberts, takes a fateful step above her station, while Lady Maud Fitzherbert herself crosses deep into forbidden territory when she falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German embassy in London… These characters and many others find their lives inextricably entangled as, in a saga of unfolding drama and intriguing complexity, Fall of Giants moves seamlessly from Washington to St. Petersburg, from the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion. It is destined to be a new classic. In future volumes of The Century Trilogy, subsequent generations of the same families will travel through the great events of the rest of the twentieth century, changing themselves-and the century itself. With passion and the hand of a master, Follett brings us into a world we thought we knew, but now will never seem the same again.

My thoughts on this book:
I finally finished this book. The book tells the stories of events leading up to and through World War One, through the eyes of multiple families in Britian, America and Russia. Ken Follett makes it feel you are right there with the participants in the Trenches of WW1, and through the Bolshevik Revolution. I usually enjoy historical fiction especially when it deals with politics and war, this was right up my ally. I can’t wait for the next book in the Century Trilogy Series. You could already see Follett start laying the groundwork for the next book, which I’m assuming will be the build up and fighting of World War Two. Towards the end of this book you could see Walter von Ulrich dealing with Germany’s feelings about the loss of the war, and Grigori Peshkov as a commissar for Lenin. I would recommend this book to everyone, there’s suspense, action, some love stories and plenty of intrigue. So I give it an 8 out of 10

Author: Tom Harper
Author Website: www.tom-harper.co.uk
Publisher: Arrow Books
ISBN: 9780099454755
Main Characters:
C. S. Grant, former member of British Special Operations Executive, turned gun runner
Arthur Reed, Professor of Classical Philology, Oxford
Muir, British Intelligence
Marina Papagiannopoulou, former member of the Greek Resistance.
Marty Jackson, American, attached to the Allied Military Mission
Summary:
In 1947, the British, Americans and Russians are all looking for the legendary shield of Achilles because it may contain Element 61, a chemical element then missing from the periodic table that could be used in weapons. C.S. Grant, a British adventurer in need of a government pardon, agrees to help recover a murdered archeologist’s notebook that may hold clues to the shield’s whereabouts. A number of stock supporting characters, including an attractive female archeologist and an elderly scholar, accompany Grant to Crete in search of answers. While Harper offers some interesting discussions about the origins of Homer’s poems, some readers may weary of such formulaic plot elements as a slow-motion romance, gunfights, hairbreadth escapes and the loss of a key clue.

–Summary from Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc

My thoughts on this book:

I enjoyed this book, it was written well, and had a good pace. I am a fan of Myth/history thrillers, I would rate this one as a 3 out of 5. It was good but it was great. I can’t really put my finger on exactly what I disliked in this book, but I can say that it took me about a week to finish this book off, but a similar novel, The Sacred Vault by Andy McDermott, I finished off in 2 days of reading. So something just didn’t trip my trigger with this novel. If you are caught up on all your favorite Authors and need something new, give it a try…

Short Synopsis:

Black Wind continued Dirk Pitt’s meteoric career with one of Clive Cussler’s most audacious, and well-received, novels yet: “Black Wind more than maintains the supercharged Cusslerian danger” (Kirkus Reviews). “Thriller fans will revel in this action-packed yarn” (Publishers Weekly). But now Cussler takes an extraordinary leap, with one of his most remarkable villains ever.

Genghis Khan-the greatest conqueror of all time, who, at his peak, ruled an empire that stretched from the Pacific Ocean to the Caspian Sea. His conquests are the stuff of legend, his tomb a forgotten mystery. Until now.

When Dirk Pitt is nearly killed rescuing an oil survey team from a freak wave on Russia’s Lake Baikal, it appears a simple act of nature. When the survey team is abducted and Pitt’s research vessel nearly sunk, however, it’s obvious there’s something more sinister involved. All trails lead to Mongolia, and a mysterious mogul who is conducting covert deals for supplying oil to the Chinese while wreaking havoc on global oil markets utilizing a secret technology. The Mongolian harbors a dream of restoring the conquests of his ancestors, and holds a dark secret about Genghis Khan that just might give him the wealth and power to make that dream come true.

From the frigid lakes of Siberia to the hot sands of the Gobi Desert, Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino find intrigue, adventure, and peril while collecting clues to the mysterious treasure of Xanadu. But first, they must keep the tycoon from murder-and the unleashing of a natural disaster of calamitous proportions. Filled with breathtaking suspense and brilliant imagination, his new novel is yet further proof that when it comes to adventure writing, nobody beats Clive Cussler.

Well I have to say this for Ted Bell and his Alexander Hawke series of books, is that they are quite good, and I look forward to more of them. While the last one I had read, Spy, was not as good as the three previous Alex Hawke books, it was still a paper turner with plenty of action and adventure.

One of the things that I do like about Ted Bell’s writing is he does add a lot of humor along with all the action. If you like Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt, Brad Thor’s Scot Harvath,or Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp, you need to read the Alex Hawke books.
